Outdoor Activities

Affectionately referred to as the “River City,” Sacramento offers residents and visitors a wide array of outdoor activities to enjoy year-round. The 32-mile American River Parkway is a beautiful paved pathway along the American River for walking, running and cycling. At the CSUS Aquatic Center, all ages can enjoy water activities including kayaking, water skiing, canoeing and more. And of course, there are unlimited boating, fishing, hiking and picnicking opportunities at Folsom Lake or along the American and Sacramento Rivers.

Golfers will enjoy the countless private and public golf courses, including Haggin Oaks’ 24-hour driving range.

If you like outdoor shopping and farm-fresh produce, you’ll enjoy Sacramento’s many year-round Farmers’ Markets offering fresh fruits and vegetables from local growers, flowers and more.

And for a relaxing night of entertainment during the warm spring and summer months, pack a picnic and head to one of the many local parks featuring Pops in the Park concerts or Screen on the Green family movie nights!

Just beyond the Sacramento area, outdoor enthusiasts can choose from hiking and camping in the beautiful Yosemite Valley, strolling along a Pacific Coast beach or skiing in Lake Tahoe’s Sierra Nevada mountain range.
