Dedicated Nursing Care
Several specialized departments offer nursing care both before and after a cardiac procedure. The nursing staff is highly trained to respond to patient care needs. Our Cardiac Support Unit (CSU) and Cardiac Intervention Unit (CIU) are experienced in caring specifically for pre- and post-cardiac catheterization, intervention and EP patients. Most patients who have an interventional procedure are discharged from the hospital within 24 to 48 hours.
For post-operative cardiac surgery patients, there are a number of other departments that focus on needs specific to surgery. Immediately after cardiac surgery, patients are sent to the Cardiac Surgery ICU (CSICU) for about 24 hours. They are then transferred to the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), where they are monitored for an additional four to five days in most cases. The majority of our patients are discharged from the hospital after cardiac surgery in about five to six days.
