Diagnosis

The key to success

Joint pain has many different causes and an accurate diagnosis is crucial to getting the appropriate treatment. Common causes of pain may include osteoarthritis or injury to ligaments, tendons or bone. If joint pain is limiting your mobility and activity, a good diagnosis is your first step in resolving the pain.

The orthopedic doctors at Mercy General's Orthopedic Center for Excellence are specialists in diagnosing and treating joint pain. As part of your evaluation and diagnosis, we will review your history: Why are you coming to see the doctor? When and how did your joint pain start? In addition, the doctor will perform a physical exam, including testing your range of motion and strength of muscles.

As a result of the exam the doctor may ask you to have an X-ray, an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), an arthrogram or an aspiration arthrogram, or a gadolinium scan. These tests will help the doctor make a diagnosis. (If you already have X-rays, please bring them with you.)

If you're suffering from joint pain, don't wait another day - we have appointments available and can help you find the right doctor who can diagnose your pain correctly and provide you with treatment options.
