Resources for patients with hip or knee pain
If you suffer from joint pain, you know how it can limit your function every day and affect your overall quality of health. The pain that's caused by arthritis, or injuries to ligaments or tendons, robs many people of the normal activities of daily living.

Under your doctor's care, you may be able to alleviate some of the symptoms of joint pain through diet, exercise and medication. In some cases, surgery may be an option.

At Mercy General Hospital, our Orthopedic Center of Excellence is dedicated to providing an accurate diagnosis and lasting treatment solutions that restore strength, flexibility and function to problem areas such as knees and hips. Using the latest technologies and techniques, our board-certified orthopedic specialists offer you a full range of services from minimally-invasive arthroscopy to total joint replacement surgery.

Pre-surgery classes
The Total Joint Replacement Program at Mercy General Hospital offers a comprehensive education program for patients who elect to have joint replacement. The program offers pre-operative surgery classes during which patients and family members learn about the procedure planned and the recovery process from the health care team. This team of professionals includes a physical therapist, nurse, dietician, case manager, occupational therapist and the admitting and registration clerk.

Class topics include: pre-registration during class, making the admission process more efficient; what to bring to the hospital; types of implants and surgeries that are performed; the recovery and rehabilitation process; pain management and a clear overview of what will happen during your hospital stay. Classes are offered every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Classes are held at 3810 J Street, near the corner of 39th and J Streets. Parking is available in the lot in front of the building. If you're unsure of the location you may use Google Maps for assistance.
