A National Web-Based Randomized Phase III Study of Erlotinib or Placebo Following Concurrent Docetaxel, Carboplatin and Thoracic Radiotherapy in Patients with Inoperable Stage III Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Trial Description:
The objective of this trial is to determine whether taking erlotinib (Tarceva) following treatment with chemotherapy and radiation therapy for inoperable stage III, non-small cell lung cancer is more effective than chemotherapy and radiation therapy alone.

Treatment Plan:
Patients will be randomized to one of two treatment arms:

1. Arm A - chemotherapy, radiation therapy plus tarceva
2. Arm B - chemotherapy, radiation therapy plus placebo

Patients:

  • Newly diagnosed inoperable Stage III non-small cell lung cancer with no evidence of metastatic disease
  • No brain metastases
  • No previous chemotherapy or radiation therapy for lung cancer
  • Lab tests, a current physical exam and medical history must meet study specific criteria
