A Randomized, Double Blind, Placebo-Controlled Phase III Trial Comparing Bevacizumab Therapy with or without Erlotinib after Completion of Chemotherapy with Bevacizumab for the First Line Treatment of Locally Advanced or Metastatic Non-Squamous Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Trial Description:
The purpose of this study is to determine whether the combination of bevacizumab and erlotinib is more effective than bevacizumab alone when given to patients after treatment with chemotherapy and bevacizumab.
Treatment Plan:
Patients who have completed four cycles of chemotherapy plus bevacizumab without disease progression will be randomized to one of two treatment arms:
1. Arm 1 - bevacizumab plus placebo
2. Arm 2 - bevacizumab plus erlotinib
Patients:
- Advanced non-small cell lung cancer
- No prior chemotherapy treatment for metastatic disease
- No brain metastases
- Lab tests, a current physical exam and medical history must meet study specific criteria
