Mercy Eye Surgery Program

A person's ability to see their world clearly is often a key part of their quality of life. The goal of Mercy's Eye Surgery Program is to create better vision for our patients so they can more clearly see the world around them.

The Mercy Eye Surgery Program at Mercy General Hospital is affiliated with many highly skilled ophthalmology physicians who are specially trained in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases and conditions, often using innovative outpatient surgical techniques.

The Mercy Eye Surgery Program offers a wide range of eye care services, including:

  • Cataract Surgery - The most commonly treated condition, with more than 3,500 procedures performed at Mercy facilities each year.
  • Glaucoma Surgery - The latest medication treatments and laser surgery techniques are used to treat this disease that can result in optic nerve damage and permanent loss of vision.
  • Corneal Eye Care - With specialists who stay abreast of the latest trends in corneal transplant, we perform the largest number of corneal transplants in the area.
  • Retinal Eye Care - Mercy's ophthalmologists offer specialized care for all retinal problems, including retinal tears and detachments, and conditions associated with age and viral infections. They also manage diabetes-related eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy.
  • Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery - Our comprehensive ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery program includes surgical removal of tumors around the eye, including the eyelid; laser surgery techniques to correct disorders such as congenital tearing and ptosis (drooping eyelids); and treatment for conditions caused by thyroid disease.
  • Pediatric Eye Care/Strabismus - The latest medical and surgical therapies are used to treat children with strabismus, commonly referred to as crossed eyes. It is often corrected with a nearly painless outpatient technique.
