Continuing a 150-year tradition of caring

The Sisters of Mercy came to Sacramento 150 years ago with a mission to provide education and healthcare to residents of this booming new city. In 1925, they opened what is now Mercy General Hospital - an institution dedicated to providing the highest quality, most compassionate healthcare possible.

Sacred Heart Parish School moved to its present location at 39th and I Streets in 1939 and today offers students exceptional educational opportunities, including special programs in art and music, computers and religion.

Together, the two organizations provide Sacramento residents not only with the much needed services of healthcare and education, but they also share a strong dedication to serving the community at large in the true tradition of the Sisters of Mercy.
