Environmental Impact Study
A critical step of the revised Mercy General Hospital and Sacred Heart Parish School Joint Project is to identify any possible environmental impacts. To do this, an independent, third party was hired by the City of Sacramento to conduct a Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the project. The DEIR was released mid-July and evaluated a number of environmental areas including the following:
- Aesthetics and Visual Resources
- Air Quality
- Cultural Resources
- Hazardous Materials and Public Safety
- Noise
- Utilities
- Transportation and Circulation
According to the DEIR, with mitigation measures, there are no significant environmental impacts to East Sacramento neighbors or businesses. This is due in large part to the reduction in project size and other changes made by Mercy over the past few years in response to community input.
The DEIR was circulated and public comments were accepted through Monday, Aug. 27. Next steps for the project application include a review and vote by the Planning Commission.
