Family Birth Center
Mercy is well-known for its outstanding care of mothers and their newborns. The birth of a baby is a miracle, and our doctors and nurses are there to provide the compassionate care your family deserves. In addition to your doctor and labor nurse, a respiratory therapist will be present at any high-risk birth to check over your baby and make sure your baby's first breaths are clear ones.
If you have a high-risk pregnancy, Mercy General doctors have the know-how and the technology you need. In the event of a premature birth or seriously ill baby, your infant may be transferred to one of our acclaimed neonatal intensive care units nearby at either Mercy San Juan Medical Center or Methodist Hospital of Sacramento, where specially-trained doctors and nurses use state-of-the-art equipment to care for every need of the tiniest of newborns.
For all new moms, lactation consultants are available to answer any questions you have about breast-feeding and a newborn nursery gives you an opportunity to get some rest between feedings.
Home-style Birthing Suites
CHW's Sacramento-area Family Birth Centers deliver nearly 9,000 babies each year, rivaling all other hospital systems in the area. In addition, our cesarean section rate is one of the lowest in the area. Last year, 2,750 babies were born at Mercy General Hospital. Decorated in warm, relaxing tones, our home-style birthing suites allow you to experience labor, birth and recovery in the comfort of one spacious, private room. There are even sleeping accommodations for a partner. Rooms are equipped with the latest technology needed to accommodate any birth and, should the need arise, cesarean birth suites are also available at each Family Birth Center.
